THERAPY FOR TEENS
BEING A TEENAGER IS HARD.
In high school, I remember someone telling me that those four years would be the best years of my life. I'm sure I nodded, smiled and tried to act normal, but internally I felt really small (and kind of horrified).
Being a teenager is hard. You no longer have the carefree mentality of a kid, but you also don't have the freedom that comes with being an adult. You're grappling with figuring out who you are while also trying to find a place where you belong. And then there's high school, academic pressure, the feels, and navigating parental relationships. To top it off, you're somehow expected to know what you're going to do with the rest of your life. It can feel like an overwhelming and impossible task.
If you're struggling to fit in, you might also feel a pull to hide aspects of yourself from others. It's hard not to when social media makes it seem like everyone around you is happy, surrounded by friends, and living the perfect life. Without a place where you can talk openly about what's really going on, it can start to feel pretty isolating; like you're the only one who is dealing with stuff like this. I know the feeling, but trust me on this one... you're not.
When I worked at a residential program, I realized how much I love working with teenagers. Young adults who are struggling with things like depression, social anxiety, trauma, bullying, self-harm, drug and alcohol use, sex and relationships, and identity-related issues like sexuality and gender identity. From personal experience, I know how helpful it can be to have someone to talk to who is in your corner, fighting with you instead of against you. Meeting with me can be a place where you don't have to hide and can actually feel okay about who you are.
